Empire of Light
You know the feeling. You are about to type something honest into a box on a website, and you stop. Some part of you runs the numbers: where does this go, who reads it, what gets sold, what comes back at you six months from now as an ad. That pause is not paranoia. It is experience.
So we will go first.
This page is the short version of the promises we are bound to, written in plain language, before you give us anything at all. The long version is the Learner Covenant, and it is not a values statement we can quietly rewrite. It is part of your contract with us. Where this page and that document differ, the document governs, and the reading more protective of you wins.
Every interaction with us should leave you feeling more seen, more capable, and more connected than before it.
That is the standard, and it is the check on everything we build. If something we make does not pass it, we do not ship it.
It applies whether you ever pay us or not. If you read one article and never come back, you should still leave with more than you arrived with. That is not generosity. We think anything less is a bad way to build.
Your inner work is never scored against another person, never placed on a leaderboard, and never shown to anyone unless you choose to share it.
What you give to this community is a different thing. When you show up, share what you are learning, or help someone through a hard stretch, we may make that visible and celebrate it. Your growth is private. Your generosity can be seen. We will never blur the two.
The wall runs in both directions. Nothing you do, and nothing you decline to do, in community changes what your reading says about you, what you are taught, how fast you move, or what you can reach. Being quiet here costs you nothing.
Your position gets measured. You never get ranked. Those are two different sentences and we mean both of them. There is no summit of worth to climb toward: the measurements point at where you are standing, never at how much you are worth.
Picture three people at the same stove. One is following the recipe exactly, and it is working. One stopped reading recipes years ago and cooks by feel. One is not thinking about food at all; they are thinking about the person who taught them to cook. Same kitchen. Same truth. Three completely different conversations.
Most teaching picks one of those three and calls the other two the wrong audience. We would rather change the language than thin the content. The person following the recipe gets the same respect as the one improvising, and neither is handed a smaller version of what is true.
Empire of Light maps where ancient wisdom and modern science describe the same truth in completely different languages.
We do the same thing with you. We find the language you already speak, and then we teach at the edge of what you can reach.
No one is excluded. Nothing is diluted.
This one is easy to check, so check it.
We will tell you what we are going to teach, teach it, and then ask whether you want more. If you say no, that is the end of it. If what we gave you was real, you will come back on your own schedule. If it was not, no timer was ever going to fix that.
If you catch us breaking one of these, you are not imagining it. Tell us. We will name it and fix it.
And even while it is being used, it is not being read the way you fear. The part of the system that composes what your teacher says to you is never handed your identity. Your name, your email, your account: none of it travels with your words. Teaching works from what you just said, a short memory of the exchange in progress, and passages written and cited in advance. Your words select the teaching; they are not used to build a file on you. The walls run deeper still. The part that scores you cannot read your conversations at all, and the part that talks with you never sees your raw numbers. The closer anything gets to judging you, the less of you it is allowed to see. And the running tallies we keep about the platform are stripped of identity at the instant they are written: the system refuses to record an aggregate that carries a name, so there is no trail of you inside our statistics to protect, because none exists.
See it. Your own summary lives in your account: what we hold about you, and what the system has learned about how you learn. Every field we store is listed in plain language on a page you can read without logging in.
Take it. Ask us, and we will send you your data in a form you can actually read. Two honest details. There is no self-serve button yet; a person here runs the export for you, and we are building the button rather than claiming it. And for a small set of internal categories (the raw statistical estimates the system works with, and our own housekeeping) we send you the list of what is held instead of the numbers themselves, because those numbers mean nothing outside the math that produces them. Everything that is about you in a readable sense comes back in full.
Erase it. Ask us, and we will erase you. There is a Request erasure button on your Personal Data & Rights page, or you can simply email. Really deleted, not deactivated, not hidden behind a flag. A person completes it, and here is what that person actually sees while doing it: categories and counts, never contents. The tool walks them through each place your data lives, so many records here, so many there, removes them, then checks each of those places a second time and proves them empty. It does not open or display what you wrote; the one key that can read everything exists to hand your data back to you, not to show it to us. When it is done, we write to you naming exactly what was removed, and what stayed and why. The receipt we keep contains no trace of you, only a one-way fingerprint proving the work was done. Our commitment is 30 days. We aim for two. An unattended delete button would be faster; a person checking is more thorough, and we would rather be slow and certain than instant and unconfirmed.
Two things we cannot erase, said plainly rather than glossed: payment records, which tax and accounting law require our payment company to keep, and anonymous counts that never carried your name in the first place, where there is nothing of you left to remove.
The companies that handle your words on our behalf are named on our privacy page. If that list ever changes, the page changes in the same breath.
And we never sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. Your answers, your conversations, and what you post in community are never used to train anyone's AI models. One honest exception: if this business is ever bought or merged, your information would move with it, because that is how that works, and we will not pretend otherwise. These promises move with it too and bind whoever holds your data. We would tell you before it happened, and you would have the chance to take your data and leave first. We have no such plans.
Think back to a test that told you who you were. A personality type, a school assessment, a quiz a friend sent you at midnight. Some of it landed hard and true. Some of it was confidently, specifically wrong. And nobody ever told you which part was which.
Here is our side of that.
What we hand you is our good-faith reading: built from cited wisdom, careful work, and attention to how you actually practice, and corrected over time by the real people walking it.
It is not a clinical assessment. It is not a diagnosis. It is not a scientifically validated measurement of you, and we will never pretend otherwise.
When the reading is uncertain, it says less and asks more. You are the one who decides whether it is true. If it does not fit, that is information about the mirror, not a verdict about you.
Inner work goes to hard places. Sometimes it goes somewhere that needs more than teaching.
If what you write suggests you may be in crisis, the teaching stops. You are offered real crisis resources immediately, automatically, without waiting for anyone to notice.
A person here is told that it happened. That alert deliberately does not contain your words: it carries the decision and nothing you wrote. A human follows up, and our commitment is within 24 hours.
We are a small team. We will not tell you we are here around the clock, because we are not. We would rather you know the true shape of our capacity now than discover it on the worst night of your life.
What you say in that moment is never scored. It never becomes a measurement of you, it never changes who teaches you, and it never enters our analytics. The only thing kept is a note that it happened and what was offered, with none of your words in it, and you can see that note and have it erased like anything else.
The boundary we hold: this is education for human growth. It is not therapy, medical care, or crisis services, and your teachers here, human and AI alike, are not a substitute for a licensed professional. If you are working with a therapist or clinician, this work can sit alongside that. It does not replace it.
If you are in crisis in the U.S., call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Outside the U.S., there is an international directory linked from our legal hub.
You have probably been burned by at least one of these. Naming them is how you get to hold us to them.
These are the same tripwires we use internally to catch ourselves drifting. Publishing them is the point. They are now yours to enforce, not only ours.
Imagine walking in exactly as you are today: however far along, however skeptical, whatever language you think in. Nothing to perform. No level to reach first. No version of yourself to become before you are allowed to begin.
That is the door, and it is open at your register.
What we ask of you is small and real. Honesty in your answers, because the reading can only be true if you are. Care with the people in the community rooms. And patience with the timing, because the timing is part of the teaching.
Read the promises in full: the Learner Covenant.
Then come in when you are ready. We will not be counting down.
